The full moon in Capricorn (July 19th) is like lead in the ocean— heavy, dense. it plunges straight to the bottom, raising a tidal wave, chaos at the depths, floods of emotion. As the moon joined with Pluto, (July 18th) and reactivates the lingering square with Uranus that has been smoldering since the last new moon, we are in experiencing the waves of personal and collective emotion rising to extreme limits of containment and endurance. Mars is still finishing his long slog through the Scorpio swamplands; Global horrors are reenacted in rapid succession. We hardly have time to react before another one comes.
The full moon comes at the end (28 degrees) of the Sun’s passage through Cancer, the moon’s own sign, queen of the water element, symbolizing emotion, home, family. In this time of numbing violence and cynicism we need courage to maintain empathy, to feel, to resist becoming hardened, closed off; this is the worst of Capricorn which manipulation of fear and authoritarian ideologies to subsume personal, human values.
Silver and the Moon
Astrology since ancient times has been closely linked to alchemy, and both have been part of the healing traditions. The planets live in the Earth as metals and minerals, cosmic energy collected over countless millennia, hidden in subterranean storehouses, “seeded” eons ago when the Earth was formed. While lead is associated with Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, silver is the metal of the moon, the queen in alchemy— feminine, receptive, complement to the Sun’s gold. Silver is a mother, intimately connected with food and nurturing. Babies learn to drink from silver cups, if they are lucky enough to have one, and silver spoons (and forks and knives) grace our tables. Silver is generally passed on through the maternal line. It nurtures memory, intuition, and reflection. Silver evokes the feminine and can soften the “leaden” energy of the Capricorn moon.
Wear silver ornaments, make an altar with silver or silvery objects, white candles and flowers over this moon tide (next two weeks) thus inviting the positive energies of purity, order and balance, Consecrate the home and let that vibration radiate out into the world
Venus joins Mercury in Leo in the second half of July, and will be the Evening
Star until the last day of the year, increasingly bright and visible after sunset in the west in the weeks ahead, beckoning us out into the magical summer twilight.Venus rules Taurus and Libra, and is the esoteric ruler of Gemini, evoking the balance of heart and mind, and redemptive power of beauty. On July 22nd the Sun passes into Leo; as the tides of the Cancer waters recede a bit, we move forward on creative ideas and with clearer vision as we approach the Leo new moon on August 2nd.
