The full moon in Aries on October15th intensifies tensions that have built over the past few months. Each full moon illuminates and focuses the energies of the other planets—like light in a kaleidoscope. A pattern forms; we see more clearly. The full moon is in a close conjunction with Uranus, symbol of chaos and sudden change, with the Sun, Jupiter and Mercury opposite in Libra, providing some balance and equilibrium in the midst of swirling, changeable forces. With Uranus in the mix things can overheat. Pluto is also a big player, approaching an exact conjunction with volatile Mars in Capricorn on the 19th. Fallout from last month’s eclipses is still unsettling our foundations; the ground we stand on and walk on is the ground of change. The Libra planets, especially Jupiter, which will remain in Libra for the next 12 months, emphasize the value of supportive relationships, and the timeless rituals of friendship, love and beauty that give meaning to life, and make it endurable, especially in uncertain times. The full moon and its aftermath have special significance for those with planets in Aries and Libra. For these signs this will be a time of decision and action. Care should be taken to protect and restore health.

October’s full moon is traditionally called the hunter’s Moon, blood Moon, or wine moon. These moon names all suggest ideas of sacrifice and transformation. Later in October and early November we have Hallowe’en and the Day of the Dead—the Scorpio celebrations honoring the theme of death, mourning and renewal. Light a candle and meditate in quietude to honor the ancestors.

October concludes with a new moon in Scorpio on the evening of October 30th. Esoteric astrology relates Scorpio to the concept of the “Dweller on the Threshold”, a shadow projection of failure and negative forces holding us back; the transformative power of Scorpio brings the “Angel of Presence” to assist in dispelling this shadow-illusion. So, the demon becomes the daemon, the angelic companion who guides us through the dark passages of our soul journey.

This beautiful expression of the duality of Scorpio is essential to understanding the depth and mystery of this sign, whose symbols include both the scorpion and the dove.
